A car cheaper than the Nano! VW to launch 600$ car

But it only seats one, so that 4x600=2400$ for the whole family


Going by the moniker VW1 (1for 1L/100km)

VW have been testing this for quite some time now(First showcased 2002). the target fuel economy was 1L for 100 kms, and to safely transport one.

It runs a 299cc single cylinder diesel engine! producing 8.5 bhp, and mated to an automatic transmission.

The engine is designed for quick start/stops, and shuts down when you are coasting, braking, or stationary at a red light etc, and starts as soon as the accelerator is pressed.

Rumored to be launched in China for about 4000 Yuan or about 36,000 Rs.

My Take - Its an impressive design for the fuel efficiency it offers, that rivals most motorcycles sold on the open market. However the lack of space, and not being a proper car, restricts it to an office commuter, great for going to work.

For fun, and for maybe 100,000 INR, I would surely buy one of these!

 

well, if its 36,000 INR, then a 118% duty on import that would make it around 80,000. Ill fit a nice sound system and some seat covers and alloy wheels, so 1 Lakhs is a good price

Top speed is not necessarily related to the engine. It's how you design the vehicle ( aerodynamics ) and the gearing.

This has an extremely low drag co-efficient, Which makes it easier to push against the air at speeds of 60 kmph and above.

At speeds above 70-75 kmph, most of the engine power is used in overcoming the air resistance/drag. Thats why the 50-70 kmph zone is considered the most fuel efficient.

 

This is ridiculous looking crap. This is worse than nano.

 

I think this would simply slide underneath a truck if there was one. But made by VW guys. Should be fine

 

I am buying this irrespective of what anyone has to say about it's looks. It gets me from one point to another at the cheapest rates and without having to change gears every second.
