According to an article on Gizmodo, Nielsen Soundscan released their 2014 Mid-Year Music industry report. And it seems that vinyls have grown in sales @40% while album sales were down 14%.

This matched the trend of online streaming sales growing 42%. The growth in Vinyl sales have been at a volume of 4 million records in 2014 vs 2.9 million records in 2013 for the same period.

    Interesting bits -

Frozen has been the number one album in most formats

Pharrell Williams "Happy" has been the most played track on radio.

Highest selling vinyl has been Lazaretto by White Jack (never heard :( )

Yep, but the repeat listening ability of vinyls is probably the worst. The track will sound the best at the first playback, and will eventually degrade with every repeat performance. Unless they've found some way to increase the life.

I think the first listen itself is worth it.

I have switched to FLAC only myself

Everyone is going hipster these days. But audiophiles were hipsters before it was cool.

True. Also keyboard enthusiasts were hipsters before mech keyboards were cool, and everyone is going hipster these days.
