"Ouya - pronounced "Oh yeaa" .. is setting up to break the barriers between your favorite gadgets." The internet has been abuzz since this product was announced a few days ago and while the debates over this consoles existence were heating up , Ouya has surprised all & managed to pick up over $2 Million in funding from Kickstarter in just one day. The Ouya team is promising a beautifully designed, hackable, powerful & cheap Android box with a slick controller to boot. With emphasis to encourage and level the playing field for small time developers, Ouya just might be the carriage for Android to enter our living rooms. Bear in mind this is not a toy .. for the Android community at large this is a perfect device to experiment on. Specifications: Tegra 3 quad-core processor 1GB RAM 8GB of internal flash storage HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD WiFi 802.11 b/g/n Bluetooth LE 4.0 USB 2.0 (one) Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad Android 4.0 Though we haven't still seen a working prototype from Ouya .. the buzz and popularity fueled by its underdog campaign has certainly struck a chord with a lot of people. More to come as this story unravels..
This is being called a developers console .. basically anyone with a computer can now turn game-developer and start earning the bucks. It will apparently be a haven for oldies and classic emulator ported games and support the Tegra exclusives that will come by. A standardized platform will aid greater optimization and better User experience. Not to mention its Home Entertainment capabilities.
QUICK UPDATE: The Kickstarter fund for Ouya has now climbed up to $4,359,109. Far from its initial target of $950,000 Ouya team is now asking its promoters how it can expand on its initial goals..
As interesting as this sounds.. this is simply Not going to make me hold off from buying the xBox720/8 & the PS4 I simply Don't expect major developers making too many large games for a openly hackable system But should be good for ports of older classics So.. now that makes it 3 consoles that I simply gotta buy
This whole console costs you the same as maybe 2 titles of your high-end consoles. And personally I'd rather see good games than good hardware .. This console isnt a competitor ..
True... but think: IF.. the new PS4/xBox720 isn't backwards compatible.. (Remember PS3 and xBox360 both aren't) Even if they are, like the initial old PS3 was.. it's not going to be able to play hacked versions of the older consoles.. So then.. I need to have connected to my TV: 1. PS3 2. PS4 3. xBox360 4. xBox720 5. the STB 6. HTPC (Don't like/have/care for the Wii) And Now you want to add a 7th device? How many HDMI ports do you think my poor TV has???
