This happened to my Alienware today. The power adapter was plugged in, but for some reason, it would simply just show - plugged in, Not charging.

Tried the usual tricks, disconnect, re-connect, power off, power on, etc etc.

Finally resorted to investigating my problem further. Apparently the BIOS was no help ( I cannot toggle the Battery option at all).

It turns out that this is a common problem that other owners of Alienware laptops are facing as well. And it not only affects the 14, bu the previous generation MX14, 17 laptops as well.

Solution - They tell you to disconnect battery and keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds after disconnecting the battery.

However a much easier solution is -

    - With the A/C adapter plugged in, open device manager.

    - Select - Batteries -

Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method battery.

Then uninstall the AC adapter as well.

Disconnect the charger, and then shut down your laptop.

Wait for 30 seconds or so, power up, and re-connect your power cord to the laptop. It should configure the drivers for the battery devices, and you should be able to see them normally as seen before.

However the crucial difference would be, that your battery should now be charging.

Cheers, hope this comes handy to other Alienware owners/users
