According to a link shared by harryneopotter, Pepsi is apparently looking at launching a phone in China. The launch date is reportedly October 20th, 2015, and the phone is an Android device with pretty regular specs, but a hefty brand backing it. This might be a unique situation, since I cannot recollect any drinks brand getting involved in electronics to this extent, other than the Coke Phones, and Walkmans from the 80s and early 90s. The specs are pretty regular with Android 5.1, a 5.5 inch 1080P screen, A Mediatek 6592 system-on-chip with 2GB RAM and 16GB Rom, with expandable storage. Camera is a 13MP rear + a 5 MP front snapper. The leaked images (available online) do show a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device as well. Other rumors suggest that this is not just a single device, but an attempt to branch out into accessories and other mobile devices. Currently this will be restricted to China (PRC) only. For a drinks major that's been playing second fiddle to Coca-Cola in nearly every market, this is definitely a unique way to strengthen your business and diversify when there is time. Carbonated beverages are on their way out, and people are moving away from them to other alternates and less damaging beverages. Interesting info, let's see how this pans out.
