I am bit outdated on whole camera technology thing, but I was wondering if there are camera which don't need batteries to be removed from the camera and charged using the given charger. I have not seen any camera charging like a cellphone and I did a bit of search but couldn't find anything conclusive.
Can someone shed light on the topic?

My Kodak of 2002-03 had this feature. However current crop requires the battery to be removed and charged separately. Nikon does have some cameras with integrated batteries, but then you gotta chuck the camera when the battery starts dying.

So it's pushed you towards cameras with integrated battery, or away from them?

Apparently my sister have coolpix S200 which can be charged with USB and in camera charger.
Though it is not a smart idea, but I am having a hard time convincing my folks that it is not all that important of a feature.
Secondly I was thinking about AA batteries in camera instead of LiMH since if they discharge you can buy batteries and replace them in case of emergency.
But that is just me who gets into camera emergency.

LiMH - Though the capacity might seem low, they will easily out last regular AA cells.

They have Better life and you can always buy and keep a second battery.

On a recent trip for about 3 days I dint even have to bother with charging.

I had AA cell camera. One pair of DuraCells were good for 70-90 clicks.

AA are better .. carry loads of spares. No Charging hassels, but they make a Camera Bulkier.

Nowadays people want slim .. PnS .. :/

LiMH for me. Almost all the cameras can provide 200+ shots per full cycle charge which is more than enough for a trip.
    And AA makes cameras bulkier.

Well I am a compulsive clicker.
I have clicked over 10GB of pictures in 10 days. So recharging is kinda important thing.

From what I understand. You won't find a good enough camera that will run on AA cells. So best bet to find one with the highest battery capacity and invest in spare batteries.

Get the Canon IXUS 510, very compact. Good Macro capability

You can purchase spare batteries ..they come pretty cheap now.

Actually I have a Panasonic that does just that..
Can be charged via USB too.. and battery is removable and interchangable.

Problem is.. this is kinda an unorthodox camera.. it's more of a dual purpose camera/camcorder..
(I know they all shoot videos.. but this one is more camcorder that shoots stills than camera that shoots videos)

Is this feature this important to you tho? This camera is only good if you shoot a lot of video. Otherwise there better at same price, Without this feature.

    Funny looking camera... here.. Pic:
