Its again the unwanted Upgrade time of the decade :(
My current setup is not cutting it for me now (not to mention too old for RMA if anything goes bad). So need to buy the unholy trio of Proccy, Mobo and Memory.

Budget -- ALAP (as low as possible)
Requirements - Lowest possible Idle Power consumption, Powerful enough IGP to play HD content, Quad core (for future proofing), Maximum number of SATA ports (SATAIII preferred), 4 RAM slots.

I do have a dedicated GPU (Geforce 9800GT) which i dont want to use as i rarely game and need to keep the power consumption as low as i can. So need a decent enough IGP to play HD content without much load on CPU. I dont mind if its Intel or AMD, as long as it fits the requirements mentioned above.

So what options do I have ? And i wont buying pre-owned hardware as long as its justified and fulfills the requirements !

+1 to Rockfella's setup. The dude has researched it well, and as before come up with a very good setup.

Thanks JD. Sachin although this mobo has all features (except probably SATA3) it really is not a power efficient cpu so bear that in mind.

yeah, i know. I am more looking forward to the new Ivy Bridge Platform from Intel i.e. i5 3450. Decent Enough power, and very power efficient.
See, the thing is, i dont upgrade often so i need it to last long ! I am into heavy productivity (if thats a real thing). Several tabs in Chrome, YM, Gtalk, Skype, Wampserver, Filezilla, Dreamweaver CS5/6, Photoshop CS5/6, SSH Clients, KM Player paused in the background.......all at once. So I do need good enough power, not just for now, but for coming 3-4 years atleast. And i dont think AMD will cut it for me. Correct me if i am wrong !

Then you'll have to increase your budget for Intel :)

How much would a high end quad core with 8 gigs of Ram and a decent board with OCing options cost in Intel??

^^...yeah, as i dont upgrade often, Sata III is a must have now. Anyways, decided on these :

    Intel i5 3470 (Ivy Bridge)
    Gigabyte B75-D3H
    2 x 4 GB G Skill Ripjaws 1600 Mhz
OCZ Agility 3 120 GB SSD (or any other better VFM model).

Will get these next week. Going to NP Today to check the pricing and all.

Board looks good, only that it doesnot have a PCIeX1 slot (if it matters to you)
For SSD i'd stick with corsair :) even for ram for that matter.
Rest all board is real VFM. Good luck with finding good price in NP.

Chrome, YM, Gtalk, Skype, Wampserver: that is not productivity, it is consumerism. and you my friend are suffering from it.
and for ssh, you really don't need any resources. you should leave all this behind and go to himalayas but make sure you take your mountaineering gears with you that would probably cost more than the setup but hey it is himalayas.

Corsair Force GT is a good option, but way out of my budget :(

Thanks for the link. How reliable is the website ? Any personal reviews ? Coz the price is too good to be true for a few drives there.

Now I need to decide for the SSD, from these options :

    120 GB Agility 3 ~ 6.5k

    120 GB Intel 330 Series ~ 6.5/7k

120 GB Vertex 4 - 7.3k (if the link given by WingZero is reliable.

    Any suggestions ?
