Background - I have Hyundai Santro GLS and a Ritz VXI. Ritz serves the Dad and Santro tortures me.
I am a guy who do not like vehicles which are impractical and are fuel fuzzlers.

Fortunately my Santro is practical though is a gas guzzler.

I have done Bangalore Pondicherry couple of times in my Santro, so I can drive :).

    Motivation :-
    1. I think with my twin kids, I am in dire need of a bigger Car.
    2. I pay a lot of taxes, a lot of which is used in subsidizing Diesel. So I am thinking I should get something out of it. Please no moral lectures, I hate those.

    Requirements :-
    1. Excellent handling at slow and high speeds, though I rarely go above 120kmph.
    2. Very good fuel efficiency
    3. Spacious Boot
    4. Decent rear seat comfort
    5. Decent after sales service
    6. Ergonomic seats
    7. ABS + EBD and Airbags (*must*).
    8. Suspension which will not transfer road condition to its passengers.
    9. 5 people need to travel at worst.

    Candidates :-
    1. Fiat Linea Multijet 1.3L Dynamic pack.
    2. Skoda Rapid
    3. Volkswagon Vento
    4. Suzuki Dzire
    5. Mahindra Logan ( New one ).

XUV500/Innova/Yeti are out of budgets for their top/middle end models.

    Budget ~10L

Need help in suggestions for the Car.

    rpm JD666 help maadi!

answers inline, in the quote. as far as moral lectures are concerned - there is no real one here. diesel gives better economy ANY DAY. means less CO2 to start with. Rest of the problem has to do with refining of the fuel. anyway, let's not go there.

    quick fact sheet:
faster: vento on straight lines, verna in general. linea on curves.
    build: linea/verna.
service: verna>vento>linea [cost and quality basis].
    safer: linea.
ease of parking: dzire [linea is almost the size of a corolla on the outside, mind you. vento can look puny when compared.]

    Are you kidding me?
i20 and Verna has handling worse than a boat.
I hate hyundais, krap cars. Good in bling dept, poor in fundamentals dept.

one problem my uncle is facing in Linea is that once while reversing he hit a pole.. it was a minor bump on the bumper that that deshaped it.. since then the boot sensors and all have gone haywire.. keeps showing up randomly.. sent it to the service station multiple times.. without any luck.. the guys there say its a concurrent problem with any car thats been "hit" on the back with linea and punto... also the suspension seems to wear away on bumpy kolkata roads within a ear or a year an half at max... just thought of sharing...

new dzire,on the other hand, which my cousin got has been fun to drive .. even on awful roads.. the boot is the only COMPROMISE.. though its still decent.. not spacious.. its peppy and fast.. corners well and has got sm bling as well

Fiat Linea 2012 Dynamic 1.3 Details - CarWale

Dynamic has all I will need
    - alloy wheels
    - ABS+EBD and Airbags
    - Diesel 1.3 Multijet
    - Decent rear seat space

Only issue is size of the vehicle. But seeing Bangalore where a hatch and sedan are same on roads not considering parking, I think it is ok.
Going to test drive Linea and Vento this weekend, though my heart is with Linea.

It is best looking sedan on Indian roads at <20L price point. With a handling to shame 20+L sedans, it even more appeals to me.

    But that steering feedback

BTW in new 2012 Linea read seat has 60:40 split :). Immensely useful.

have they tried changing the lock assembly? checked the wire loom? it's not the car. it's mostly noobcaek technicians.

suspension: it's a soft suspension car with high kerb weight. tell your relative to stop testing the suspension on potholes ( avoid/slow down). The car won't let you realise, but the pothole you just passed was worse than it felt. the suspension took the damage.

one key suggestion to linea owners: this car needs parking sensors, get them! things like cycles, scooties and mopeds (bangaloooru!) can hide behind it very very easily.

have u bin to kolkata... there are roads where roads are unseen.. potholes u find them everywhere.. add rains and waterlogging.. and u dont even know what hit u from outta the blue

note : whole of kolkata is not like this.. but parts are.. and those parts u have to go once a week .. and on dzire i foun them better to glide through compared to linea.. sitting in the back seat... my verna... dun ask the pain.. but it was really close to linea

I would be surprised if dzire is better than Linea in any dept apart from service network and price.

Depends on how you drive. A crazy driver like you cannot better out of a car.
But a sensible driver like me can easily get 20+ on highways on Linea, I am sure :p.

    What disadvantage?
I thought a sensible careful driver is a better driver.
no clue what you mean man.

well, i am 92 years old and have cataract in both eyes. I can drive sensibly but it takes very little to irritate me.

I drive very defensively on packed roads. packed = karol bagh packed.

disadvantage of not being crazy enough to make your own rules

disadvantage of not being crazy enough to Go mad.. let ur ears feel the breeze whizzing past

disadvantage of not being able to utilise the max outta ur gawddamned ride..

disadvantage of not being URSELF .. independent crazy freak for even one single second

nice to meet u friend.m 99.. i just got my cataracts operated.. couriered my eyes to a doc in honalulu.. he was real good ... and charged 10$ including shipping.. and now i can see that those packed karol bagh roads are packed coz of dead bodies littered by sm crazy driver.. and i kno for sure it wasnt me.. if any1 else knows who it was please cal rpm and congratulate him

Your definition of sensible is funny and weird at the same time.
I am a sensible and careful driver and I love it that way, plus I do not care on what world calls it.
All it matters is I do things way I like ;).
