Duke is a different bike, my butt got numb within 1-2 hours when my friend (pillion) went back to Mumbai from Manali, carry some pain-killers that don't induce sleep, seriously.

Some other stuff that I am planning to carry -

    - ear plugs, Water/wind/chill proof riding pants that can be pulled over pants to keep the cold out.

Want to gather all the stuff together and do a trial run of about 200 kms, with all the luggage mounted/fitted and filled to the brim just like the actual trip. So that if any improvements have to be made, I can think of them now, rather than having to improvise in the field later.

Also the bike needs some protecting, so am going to get some protective taping done to the sides, to keep the luggage from scraping/scratching the paint/surface.

Do you think you will need to change the engine oil to a low temperature fluid? Also, if there are any air filters, 2 days prior to trip would be a good time to change/clean them. Carry some grease. Make sure you regrease the chain after crossing streams. smooth mechanicals are always better mechanicals.

trial run: overload the bag(s) during this trial run. remember, the conditions there will be much more harsh. are the bags water resistant? else consider keeping stuff inside large plastic bags - the kind used to wrap new goods ( electronics/suitcases etc, you get the drift). get these for backup needs: the big bazaar jumbo ones if you can still find some.

it would be good if each biker carries some flares. different colored if possible. and of course, at least one reflector set.

I might be sounding over cautious :p

btw, actively considering Duster. but the damn brochure says 17XX kgs!

Naah, it should be 13XX kgs. Thats what the review said, and pickup was great. Though its a 4 seater purely.

a white duster with front grille stickered matter black will do ok for me. I hope we get some leh reviews of the vehicle by december ( that is the time when the motor hunt is going to get hectic.). Primarily want to get a compact SUV that can still get me and 4 others anywhere with minimal bone jarring experiences.

    what footwear for riding?

Also, don't depend too much on that '12 C'. Night temperatures in some sectors can vary wildly.

ANDDDD, it would do you lot of good to buy a bulk pack of 'mars' and scatter 'em around in the luggage.

WIll upload further pics. Wellies won't be comfy on a bike, and we are not expecting that much rain. And to do it desi style, Will have floaters in the luggage.

if you are going to haul that compressor, ensure that you re grease it first. open things around till you find a pencil cell sized compression chamber.
