No, I am not talking about cracker and cheese with wine... I am talking on behalf of all the drunkards out there... The whisky bingers and vodka bottom seekers... Yep. Here are some of my favourite - 1. Tortilla chips with salsa dip ( Senor pepito , and ready made salsa dip ) - Changes the flavour in the mouth well, while the tomato keeps your mouth refreshed. 2. Olives - Have it whole or sliced olives in brine. Really work well. And give a different taste to the mouth. 3. Raita/Curd - Now this is a love it / hate it combo. However if had, can really help control you getting too high, and having a hang over. Remember, whenever you consume alcohol, it acts as a dirutec, or basically it removes water from your body. Foods that will re hydrate your body while boozing will help you feel fresher in the morning when you wake up. Also some of the prime reasons for having a hang over is that yoru body has produced too much of bad sugar, which gives you that heaviness/pain/cramps etc. If your salt intake is decent along with your alcohol, it will help control this. The cumin and other seasonings in Raita help take care of that. There are some more combos that can be had with curd.My personal favourite are, American Lays with Curd, and second is Haldirams aloo bhujiya mixed in curd. ( You gotta eat the Haldirams quick, since it gets soggy very fast and looses its crispness ). 4. Greasy / Buttery stuff - This is best had before alcohol. Butter has an inherent tendency to line the inner walls of your stomach, thereby reducing the absorption of alcohol into the blood. In turn reducing the level of 'high' that you hit. This helps you keep your drink in, and attitude out. Though remember, there is a limit to everything. Experiment with smaller levels of greasy snacks before bumping it up. And also remember, that this adds to the calorie count you take in.KFC chicken is a good starting point 5. Fresh Salad - Yes the good old favourite. However go easy on tomatoes and concentrate on cucumber and carrot etc. 6. Peanuts/Papad etc - Peanuts may taste well, the salt may help, but they are a high concentration of calories. And the peanut cups served are dirtier than the toilets in most pubs, so at your discretion only. Please add your favourite alcohol eat-alongs here!!!
What works for me: 1. Tandoori Chicken 2. Chicken Tikka 3. Tandoori Mushrooms 4. French Fries 5. Papad 6. Peanuts 7. Pakodas 8. Lays or Uncle Chips (Plain Salted ones only) 9. Pop Corn 10. Sheekh Kababs (Yummiez has some ready to fry/roast ones) However, I don't care whether I have a snack available or not. When I got to drink, I got to drink.
