I want to buy a keyboard mostly for quakelive. I do not want anything fancy, lights or leds or any other fancy shit. I want a keyboard which is quick and can respond with multiple keypress. I have used TVS gold in past and I found it very satisfying. I do have a mechanical keyboard which is PS2 and for whatever reason it cannot respond quickly to keystrokes, may be it is issue with PS2 to USB converter or may be my laptop's USB is not capable or something like that. So I have to get a USB keyboard. I am inclined to buy Mechanical keyboard because of the feel but I would like to hear stuff about non mechanical gaming keyboards? Secondly, between mechanical gaming keyboards and ordinary mechanical keyboards(e.g. TVS gold USB version), are there any real differences? I will appreciate any help in this regards. Thank you
I think with a USB keyboard you would get a higher polling rate .. (1000hz) Most big brands offer 1000hz polling .. Anti Ghosting and multiple keypresses. etc etc .. A Razer Blackwidow would be a good place to start looking (backlit as well) .. JD666 has one .. IIRC EDIT: forget the part about the USB over PS2 .. I found something interesting here .. Brilliant guide here .. Mechanical Keyboard Guide
Cherry MX Black Switches Type: Linear Switch Link: Datasheet Tactile: No Clicky: No Actuation Force: 60g (40g-80g overall) (Force Diagram) Key Travel: 2mm to actuation, 4mm to bottom Cherry MX-Black switches are linear (non-tactile) switches, these are considered one of the best switch types for gaming. When gaming, having a tactile bump does absolutely nothing because you're going to be bottoming out anyway. So these give you a very smooth feel. The actuation and release points are at the exact same position as well. So games that require a lot of double tapping become easier than on any other keyswitch. However, most people don't enjoy typing on them that much do in part, to their linear nature. If you're a person who tends to hit a wrong key every so often while gaming, these will be beneficial in that the high actuation force will help prevent many of those accidental presses.
Did I not mention that I do not want anything fancy. LEDs are not important. Functionality: Faster response, mutiple key presses, sturdy to withstand WASD abuse. As for budget: I don't want to spend too much. But I might consider something like 50-60£, if it is value for money.
