Your fears are real. 1440 x 2560 pixels, 5.96 inches (~493 ppi pixel density). Too big IMO.

But bored? Why? What are you expecting of your phone? Looking into the horizon, I don't really see anything truly "new" coming up, until the point holographic projection becomes mainstream.

The real turn for mobile OSes came with the advancement of the touchscreen phones, from here, two possible forward directions are HUD and holographic, Android has HUD covered, so the other thing is holographic.

iOS/Android/Windows, the difference between them is starting to blur, with common features, same applications on all platforms, the real difference is just UI, Windows and iOS have a pretty much fixed UI, whereas Android allows you to play around, and possibly have the iOS and Windows UI if you want, albeit not as polished and understandably so as the other two companies put all their efforts into making one highly polished UI, whereas Google decided to make it easy for anyone to change the heck out of it and make it look like they want.

    Holograph should be the thing.
Occulus rift is building virtual reality games and google glasses are doing their thing.
