What's the status in your city? I've been viewing images of destruction all over North India, Himachal and UttaraKhand especially.

The new Terminal 3 at IGIA Delhi was flooded with water upto 2 feet in some places!!

So much for the second best airport in the world!

Finally the PM has decided to review and survey the damaged area. KedarNath is completely washed out.

Is the NDMA another disaster? Does seem so.

I stayed with my family at Rudraprayag and it was one of the most beautiful places I saw, where two rivers merge. Sad to see the destruction :(

Compared to what's happening in Uttarakhand and Himachal, yours is no loss. And it's due to you not having a canopy over the open area and improper water routing around your house. Which can be fixed

And Politicians will be Politicians by calling in favors to the army rescue teams to rescue their relatives and near and dear ones first! Arrgh, that too when they are safe in hotels and areas that have just been cut off, not devastated by the floods.

And so much for the holiness of our Baba's and Gurus. The dark side of this tragedy is yet to be unveiled. Till now only the theft of about 5 Crores from the SBI bank in KedarNath has come to light. I am sure there will be many cases of Dead bodies being robbed of any jewelry items on them.

The state has been set back by several years. And just when it was emerging from the shadow of Uttar Pradesh.

Some issue with my net connection.

Sad to hear all this. Now they are releasing actual casualty figures. Which is expected to be in thousands.

An MI-17 helicopter crashed yesterday afternoon. 20 people killed.

And reports of an epidemic are looming large. Many people have been taken ill. Apparently the ground water is being contaminated by the decaying bodies.

not really. The terrain and weather is not suitable for Heli's to operate. Probably superior Helicopters could have done a better job. The scale of the destruction is such.

The government should concentrate on having secondary routes to all these remote places so that in the event of a calamity, multiple access points can be exploited to gain timely access.

Something similar was faced with Leh during Kargil war (Only the J&K highway was good enough for connectivity), then the government concentrated on developing the Manali-Leh Highway as well).

See it is not fully military controlled environment. I saw one interview on BBC where one officer was complaining that their vehicles are stuck because PWD is not taking care of clearance of roads.
So as much Military can do it quickly, civilian systems are making it hard for them to carry out operations. Take in mind that our Military is most equipped and trained when it comes to dealing with high altitude warfare and rescue operations, this is no different.

^^ Our military is more than equipped. It's in all the interviews here, that there is no consolidated chain of command or operations. Various organizations are functioning in various ways, without any co-ordination or mutual support. Extremely hap-hazard
