WE both know banning alcohol in few places would solve nothing,
It is too late for prohibition, it never works.

taxation also does not work all the time since it just gives rise to spurious alcohol. But what I always wonder about is the amount of money that can be generated by increasing taxes on this.

Cigarettes went up from 80 Rs to a pack of 20 to 190 Rs (Classic Milds) over a period of 10 years. The tax is welcomed, but I doubt it kept anyone from getting their nicotine high.

On the contrary a case can be made for the ones who cannot afford liquor but are addicted to it, and higher taxes will only lead to more discontent and discord.

But then a balance has to be struck. Banning the whole damn thing will only make it worse.

For instance, Gujrat is a dry state, but has its policies in place for non residents to consume alcohol. On the same pretext the whole state gets it booze, but atleast it works.

Not regulating stuff is nightmare, that is how you get crime.
Alcohol will go underground and illegal, we do not want that.
