Hey Friends, I am facing trouble while playing over LAN with my friends. I ll give you a background of what we all are doing right now - 1. Everyone is using a laptop (Different windows/versions etc) 2. Games we play - Age of Empires 3 & CS 1.6 3. All are in the same room 4. One of the user creates a secured Ad HOC network & remaining users connect using Wi-Fi. 5. Once all are connected, we launch the game & go to multiplayer settings. The Problem - Not all players are shown in the game, a lot of permutations & combinations need to be done. Restart & all "jugadbazi" needs to be done. But it may be in our favor always.. Solution Needed : If i buy a wi-fi router, will it solve my problem ? This friday 8 players would be there, so please advice how to go forward, what to do ?? Any software which can help ? Thanks in advance !
mutliple machines requires a common AP, all of them can daisy chain however I am not sure that will be a good idea.
You need to invest in a Switch or atleast a Wireless access point (Wifi Router). You cannot game using Ad-Hoc connections.
The cheapest solution would be buying a simple 8-10 port switch. Rs 500/- + LAN cables for all systems. Since all have laptops an easier solution is a TP-LINK WiFi router 800-900 bucks. Create a simple WiFi network and join. Switch is cheaper and gives lower pings but it will only connect a max of 10 systems. So no expandability in the future. WiFi is a more expensive but easier to setup and can hold up to 255 devices. Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk 2
dbg - so, i will buy a TP link wifi router for 800-900. Will this solve my problem ? Or other settings also need to be done in our machines ?? Can i pull my Airtel wi-fi router & use for this purpose ?
Airtel Wifi Router will also work , no issues. If you purchase a TPLINK router then there is no configuration required except creating a simple G-Wireless network. All laptops will discover and connect to that wifi. After that you can launch any game n play.
Thanks again, just tell me one thing, what all settings do i need to do if i pull out any wi-fi router from existing internet ?
Nothing extra needed. Just take your Airtel router out from your home and take it where ever you intend to play. Power it on. Now the wifi will showup on all laptops. Everyone should connect to that wifi network. Now start up a Game server on any laptop .. and it will show up on the other laptops. Now when you plug-in your router back at home. its will connect to the internet and work as normal.
