    I have shortlisted these -

Asus VivoBook S300E-C1003H Touch Screen Laptop (Intel Core i5, 13.3 Inches, 500 GB, 4 GB, Windows  in UAE, Dubai, Abu Dhabi | Souq

^^ checked this one out in person. The Speakers are decent, and the USP is that it has a touch screen.

Sony VAIO T Series SVT13134CXS Ultrabook (Intel Core i3, 13.3 Inch Touchscreen, 500 GB, 4 GB, Windows 8, Silver) in UAE, Dubai, Abu Dhabi | Souq

Saw the lower spec model (no touch screen).

Acer S3 UltraBook 13.3 inch Windows 8 Aspire S3-391-6448 in UAE, Dubai, Abu Dhabi | Souq

This comes with a hybrid drive (500GB + 20GB SSD) Any benefits?

Fujitsu Lifebook UH-552 Intel Core i3,13.3 Inch, 500GB,4GB,Windows 7 in UAE, Dubai, Abu Dhabi | Souq

Just coz it's cheap. Is Fujitsu any good?

Acer Aspire S3-391-6448 13.3-inch Windows 8 Ultra Book in UAE, Dubai, Abu Dhabi | Souq

looks and feels just like a Macbook. Super sleek! Checked in person.

    And finally this one -

Asus S200E-CT244H Touch Screen Laptop (Intel Core i3, 11.6 Inches, 500 GB, 2 GB, Windows  in UAE, Dubai, Abu Dhabi | Souq

The primary difference between the Asus 300 and 200 is the screen size from what I understand.

Sony Laptops generally have shitty speakers ..

Lenovo or DELL would give you better sound.

ultimately, take the call based on which company has best warranty and build quality.

fujitsu is an old name in touch screen market and umpcs btw.

and make sure you buy a touch screen laptop. windows 8 is SHIT, and even worse shit w/o touch.

Typing from the new laptop selected by the missus

Its a Sony Vaio FIT 14E

i3 processor, 4GB Ram, Windows 8, 500GB hard drive and the shebang.

    The good bits -

Has a DVD drive/writer, 4 USB (2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0) ports. Dedicated speakers on the front of laptop make it extremely loud. HDMI out.

The not so good bits -

720P 14 inch screen, which is still decent though. And it's thick and heavier than the ones being considered before.

But typing is bliss on the Sony chicklet keyboard. Scroll down for price. Which is the deal maker.

    Some pics -

The matt black, metallic finish does well.

The speakers on the front with the Card reader slot.

Indicative comparison with the Dell Mini 901 next to it.

Damages - 1995 AED or about 33,550 INR

this screen resolution business is ridiculous really. back in 2009, dell had configuration options upto 1080p. now they are down to 95% fixed configs with thakela resolutions. samsung has been pushing out tired out screen resolutions on it's tabs and other products, and everyone wants to follow suit. the only tight res laptops i saw in the market last week were two ultra-ultra light models from sony. 74k for a 11.6inch fhd touch model - 780grams cf body. man, i could hack out that lcd and scoot :p

Shebang, not shebag, meaning bells and whistles, or the regular set of features that laptops today have. like webcam, microphone, bluetooth, card reader, etc etc.
