Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 is an decent entry level book shelf and it might need good amplification to sound good, the price of this combo will be far more than the price of any powered monitor speaker, also for setting up a good home stereo hifi you need to spend more to get good sound, studio monitors are value for money specially considering the price to performance ration in the entry level and mid level setups, even in high end setups personally from hearing many HIFI setups and pro audio based setups i feel the difference like most will suggest is sound characteristic, while HIFI speakers might tend to sound with some sort of flavor and have its own on sound characteristic pro audio would almost sound dead neutral and true to the source, its boils down to the personal taste of the listener, but i can vouch for one important aspect of pro audio which hifi setups that i've heard have not been able to achieve that well and that is dynamics, specially in good SPL pro audio will eat any high end million dollar system for breakfast when it comes to dynamics, this is a very important advantage when it comes to certain types of music like trance, electronic or rock.

JBL Control series are good speakers but not sure how the wireless system works.

Yeah, besides the experience that they have a tendency to shed their speaker surrounds in about 5 years.

Not a big fan of wireless to be frank.
So far Tannoy and Audio engine make sense to me.

I just got myself a pair of cheap arse *Active* Studio Monitors, I do not want to keep matching a Amp with my next upgrade, if any.

As a added bonus these Monitors have a Bluetooth link, so technically they can sit anywhere as long as connecting device has bluetooth. Love this feature.

Gonna try a Movie with these Monitors behind us and screen in front. Let us see if it gives some good half decent effect, though intended usage is to connect Cell Phones, laptops and even languishing PC via bluetooth.

your test might not mean anything to me but I am just curious to listen to your generic experience. As for Audio systems go, I can only tell by listening if they fit the bill for __me__. I don't know about any benchmarks to really to parameterise them qualitatively.

Here are initial impressions, if it matters.
    1. For 90$ you get Bluetooth with these and they work flawlessly, +1.
    2. They sound incredibly smooth with exaggerated emphasis on bass ,+1.
    3. If I turn the laptop sound to 1 or 2 in Windows, I can still hear it just fine via increasing the volume on right Monitor.
    4. But with step 3, I hear a mild hissing sound. I am assuming that is because of crappy Sound Card on Inspiron 1525.
    5. I think you need a good DAC to get most out of it.
    6. Build quality is very good. It better be at 90$.

    7. It does have a headphone out on right Monitor but I do not know if it can drive a quality headphone or not.

PS:- I do not have RCA cables, so laptop connects via bluetooth. So does phone(s) at home. I am expecting cleaner sound.

Edit :- Yes I was right, no hint of any hissing while streaming via Bluetooth from Samsung S III.

Nice, so I can buy tannoy and/or audio engine. The sound card on my motherboard is not too bad to be frank.
