Interstellar - 7/10. The scientific inaccuracies were aplenty and the whole "love" is the 5th dimension bullshit was Bollywood-esque. I liked the first half (Up until Mann shows up), till then things were alright, even with their scientific flaws, post that, it just became terrible. I am starting to think Nolan's reputation preceded his work as far as this movie goes, and many a people are rating the movie highly because it is from Nolan. McConaughey is a geat actor and has given some good performances recently (read Dallas Buyers Club, True Detectives) however he wasn't convincing in this movie, certainly not as the best pilot NASA has available. None of the other performances stood out either. The outer space scenes didn't look as good either, perhaps because Gravity was released recently and was brilliant in this department. Hans Zimmer however was the bright star for me, I really liked the background score and it was immersive, specially for the parts of the movie where it was very slow. Yeah, I'm not even going to go into the pacing issues of the movie. Interesting idea. Great Cast and Crew. High Potential. Much Disappointment.
Love aint the 5th dimension. I actually found gravity to be insanely slow and cliched. But that's just me.
I didn't exactly like Gravity too much either to be honest, but yes the outer space visuals were done brilliantly. I know love is not the fifth dimension literally, but just a figure of speech.
The list is growing - Big Hero 6 Fury Interstellar Penguins of Madagascar Ouija Happy New Year The Box Trolls Dumb and Dumber to
Just completed Tora Tora Tora. If you are a WW2 Buff, you would've either already seen it, or should go see it, if the events depicted (Pearl Harbor Raid, Japan's declaration of War) remotely interest you. Tons has been written about this movie, but what impressed me most was the scale at which the attack has been depicted. Some shots and scenes are way ahead of their time and the painstaking detail does become evident. Highly recommended - 4.5/5
Interstellar - Typical Nolan fare. Spoiler - Just like Dark Knight, he wraps it all up in the last 2-3 minutes of the movie. Don't take me wrong, the movie is good, totally worth a watch. 4/5. Definitely a must see. --- Double Post Merged, Nov 17, 2014 --- Big Hero 6 - Great movie. Some really touching moments. Thoroughly enjoyed! Definitely go see 4.25/5
going for Interstellar IMAX in an hour - probably going to miss the first 10-15 mins because of the lazy ass who is supposed to go with .. GRRRR
Watched The BoxTrolls. The stop animation is impressive to say the least, however the story left me desiring more. A one time watch 2.5/5
Watched the following two very hilarious movies - and its 2014 sequel - 21 Jump street follows from the TV series of the same name in the late 80s/early 90s. Though the premise is the same, this does make for a extremely honest back to school/college genre. The generation gap is real, and just makes any 30 something realize, how much the gap actually is. The acting is honest and the dialogues real. Some scenes are super funny. The treatment of 22 JumpStreet in some parts, referring to their friendship as a relationship (we should investigate other people) is funny and touching at the same time. Defintely recommend watching these if anyone has not, by now (I know I'm generally late on such movies). 4/5.
Watched Horrible Bosses 2 The movie builds further on the first movie and takes it one step further. The timing, dialogue and humor is much better than the first one. Some scenes are so funny that you cannot help but guffaw out in laughter. A great sequel. And boy oh boy, Jennifer Aniston is so so hot! Must watch 4/5
Just finished watching this. The penguins are hilarious as usual. The plot is light but then their antics were more enjoyable than anything else in the movie. Not a slow moment at all. Definitely a one time watch. 3.5/5
Alright so I saw two movies recently 1. Ex Machina: As far as Scifi go, this is probably the best one I have seen in few years. Something along the lines of The Matrix and i Robot and Animatrix. Solid plot, very well executed and Isaac Oscar is just plain brilliant. 2. Kingsman Well, it is cheeky and very British. If it was an American film, it would be complete disaster.
Ugly. Dark and thought provoking. --- Double Post Merged, Feb 27, 2015 --- Part two. The guys says "These kids do that drug and are focused for hours then they party like it is goddamn 1999" Super funny scene!
[Jenko and Schmidt are sat in Dickson's office] Captain Dickson: So you want the same shit, so here we go. [he throws a folder to Schmidt and Jenko] Captain Dickson: Same identities, same assignment. Jenko: We're going back to high school? Captain Dickson: Your ass look like you're about fifty. You're going to MC State. Schmidt: We're going to college, for real? Captain Dickson: Somebody's out here, they're cooking up a new drug. It's Adderall mixed with Ecstasy, mixed with God knows what else. [Jenko looks at his file and tries to read the name of drug which is "WHYPHY"] Jenko: Wi...wipey? Captain Dickson: No, you dumb mother?#@*&%!^$~er. Why-Phy. Stands for: Work Hard? Yes, Play Hard? Yes. Now these kids take this shit and they get laser focused for about four hours studying and then they party it's like Goddamn 1999. [referring to the photo of a girl in his file] Schmidt: Who's this? Captain Dickson: That's Cynthia Watson. She was a student at MC State, took Why-phy, got locked out of her dorm, ended up falling off the roof. Now she's dead.
