No I don't want to share my search preferences with you, neither do I want you to use background services to monitor my location, browsing etc.

I like my maps offline, and prefer downloading them to my phone, so that I am not reliant on a mobile signal for Navigation.

I prefer that my screen stays on during navigation, and does not switch off by itself, forcing me to re start maps.

I like my images instantly, and with a physical focus and click button, not when the phone would like to click it, and no dumb touchscreen buttons. I like them without lag, and preferably taken with a Xenon flash.

I don't like my phone Ram being used by unnecessary applications in the background. I like control of my running apps.

I don't like updating my apps every other day, I like them right the first go, and like them simple.

This is my safeguard for the next 2-3 years atleast, against an iOS/Android dominated future.

(P.S - Gift for the wifey on karvachauth)

    People still celebrate karvachauth? man!!!
anywho, yes i would prefer something along the lines of meego, though configuring andriod from sourcecode should be possible.

    [Beginning of super OT RANT]
ummm, no i totally dislike the idea of anyone fasting for anyone, hinduism has lot of good things, but Vrat and/or upwaas is just pure bollocks.
My mum and grandmum do this nonsense, but i do not approve it. my grandmum also used to do 24 hours of this nonsense related to some shiv vrat, i find it very bad.
At some point in time these religious ?#@*&%!^$~s decided that all vrat and upwaas should be directed toward ladies because most men wont do it anyway. And this is more fear driven than really love driven(by ratio of 80:20. It should have been eliminated along with sati system.
[End of the super OT RANT]

^^ most of the issues that I have posted in the first post, many other 'custom' rom users would also agree, exists. Its been reduced considerably, but still not as simple and no-nonsense like Symbian Anna.

No.. One should not need to customize his ROM to get features in his/her phone. Why should it not work out of the box!

( PS - any good suggestions for the Razr Maxx ).

Well, if Navigation is your primary concern then let me tell you JD that with Nokia, you have nothing to fear. The Maps are undergoing name change, from Ovi Maps to Nokia Maps and soon "Here". New features to come are like NLP based Navigation, Drive View and a lot more to come. Infact the quality and content, are both being improved drastically and they will be available on Android and iOS too but only as "Freemium".

The development of Symbian as an OS on the whole has been outsourced by Nokia to Accenture. Focus now is primarily on Windows phone and capturing the void in Mapping domain Apple created by shooting itself in the foot. Amazon is also rolling out its own Maps soon but even now Nokia's main competitor is Google who is subsidizing its revenue generated from Ads and Search into Maps division. But all said and done, Symbian won't be abandoned, might get updates a bit late but not abandoned, unless Stephen Elop at Espoo has a brain-?#@*&%!^$~.

Glad to hear that. As a low end alternate, with proper support and apps, Symbian has what it takes to fight in the sub 10k segment. eg the Nokia 500.
