    Current Specs -
    Intel Core2Duo E6600 2.4GHz - 4MB L2 Cache
    Asus P5B-MX WiFi-AP
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    Nvidi 9800GT

What I use my computer for - Surfing, listening to music, watching movies (HD), gaming occassionally (Diablo 3, Call of Duty 4)

Budget - I'd like to spend as little as possible. I have some 6GB of DDR2 RAM with me which I can utilise with the new processor.

    Options in mind
    1. Buy an AMD Phenom 560 and use it with ECS Web Site (already have the mobo). Expense incurred by going for this option would be 5k. I have 6GB DDR2 RAM with me, that I don't mind using right now, but if tomorrow I want to upgrade to another motherboard, would the Phenom support DDR3 RAM?
    2. An i3 setup - which would probably cost some 8k or so.
It'd be great if people could suggest me some other configurations or which would be a better option out of the two?

    Cheers,
    Kauffmann

Also how does the AMD Phenom 560 compare to the Intel Pentium G620?

the G620 is better than the phenom II x2 560 in almost every dept.

G620 holds upper hand in performance with lower power consumption
    AnandTech - Bench - CPU

If you already got the mbo and the rams then phenom x2 560 seems to be a decent option.

That said your combination currently is enough for decent your usage except gaming. What resolution do you game?
Phenom 560 would be enough to pair with a mid range gpu (if you intend to add it on later)

For the usage you mentioned your current set-up imo is decent enough unless you want to upgade for the sake of upgrading :p correct me if im wrong :p
EDIT: imo you shoud try to fit in Corei3 2100. It is twice as fast than G620/30 and twice as expensive but will make the upgrade worth the efforts i guess :p

I'm just about in the same boat as you..

this is what i'm looking for:

CPU : Core i5-3570K or Core i7-3770K (Arguably the 3570K has a sweeter price/performance ratio from what i've read)
Mobo : Asus Maximus V Gene or the Asus P8Z77 V-Pro (right now though, the prices are killing!!)
    RAM : Any 8GB DDR3 1600 - Corsair or G.Skill

I think I fare somewhere in the middle.

    CPU - E8400
    Mobo - IX38 QuadGT
    GPU - 2x5770 CrossFire
Ram - 4gb DDR2 running at 1000 mhz, option to add another 4gb to it.

kauffmann - I think a better processor like the E8400 and a bump up in graphics from 9800GT to something better would suffice. I BF3 with my config, and got 40-60FPS easy at 1680x1050.

However yes, the processor runs overclocked at 3.6ghz ( from stock 3 ) 24x7 ( It happens at stock volts, so I don't have to bump up anything :) )

are the prices of stuff cheaper in Delhi? I'm in Delhi from the 12th to the 14th & could pick up some stuff from Nehru Place??? If cheaper than Mumbai.

Anyone have any suggestions for retailers in Del who can get me the best prices for a combo buy?

Should be a few hundred bucks at the most, however not much. You can get much better variety ( brands / models ) in Mumbai though ( from when I last visited Lamington road ).

for a couple of 100 here and there, it would be futile indeed.
