This thread is dedicated to Paranthas and Paranthas only! Post your favorite Paranthas and accompaniments that you like to eat with em.

My All time favorite - Aloo parantha! with saunf and loads of onion! Little bit of Butter and loads of Raita! yum!

Also in the ranking - Keema Parantha (provided the Keema is fresh and minced well)

Egg Parantha - A quickie, but a tasty one at that. Enjoyed best with Ketchup!

    For the un-initiated here's a definition from Wikipedia -

"A parantha/paratha/parauntha is a flatbread that originated in the South Asia. It is quite prevalent in the throughout South Asia. Parantha is an amalgamation of the words parat and atta which literally means layers of cooked dough.[1] In Burma, it is known as palata (ပလာတာ; pronounced: [pəlàtà]), while it is known asfarata in Mauritius and the Maldives. However, in areas of the Punjabi region, it is referred to as '"prontha, parontay""

Paneer Parantha - the one which mom makes. Extra stuffed.

No matter what parantha you have .. The most important factor is that it should be served right off the stove. Sizzling hot.

Fancy a regular Aloo n Onion Parantha aswell.

Are paranthas Punjabi in origin ?

It would be difficult to get sizzling hot paranthas originated from Punjab. I would settle for the ones originated in my Kitchen. :p :D

There is an eternal debate as to where it originated, Punjab or Kashmir.

Punjab because it matches close to their style of cuisine (Butter, ghee, achchar, dahi, hot served)
Kashmir because of the general preparation and similarity to other foods from that region (Bread, stuffed bread, served hot, spices)

    Definitely Northern part of India

According to Wikipedia it's actually from the south of India. But yeah trust Punjab to Dole out the butter , ghee, curd etc for the added flavor. Lol

Well, traditionally when brahmin used to come to food to non brahmin families(viz Kshatriya or Vaishya) they were served with pakka food(nothing directly from flame). Parantha is older in the sense that it was not stuffed with stuff, but was simple bread pan fried. This tradition of parantha without potato is used in North for Upvaas(or vrat) over a long time. So parontha is much much older than we think.

True, in the true sense a parantha is a white bread cooked on top of a pan with the application of ghee/butter while cooking, while not allowing it to fill up with hot air.

When ghee/butter is not used and the wheat is allowed to blow up like a balloon it is roti.
