News RIP Symbian. Nokia announces end of support

    Finally the curtains have fallen on Symbian.

    With the Nokia 808 as the last Symbian OS phone, Nokia has officially announced end of support from January 1St 2014 onwards.

    Developers will still get the revenue for app purchases, but no new apps will be released.

    It was great while it lasted. Over 13 years..

    Didn't Accenture purchase the Symbian division ?

    No idea about that.. probably some companies still want to develop the OS further for low cost phones.

    One thing Symbian was good for, was low power multi-tasking. Using basic 350-400 mhz RISC CPUs you could manage a lot of things. So yeah, it might find some takers.

    One stable platform. Seems like it was the "XP" of phone operating systems.
