I started using Nimbuzz 3-4 years back, and it was quite a nifty bit of software that allowed me to chat, call, send files etc. I tried Whatsapp as well a couple of years ago, and liked the simplicity of the software, but din't like the fact that it kept on running in the background without my permission, and tried connecting to the internet every time possible ( Nokia N-8 ) Came 2012, and suddenly everyone I knew was on Whatsapp, when ages ago I used to tell them about how good Nimbuzz was as a cheap alternate to chatting etc. Finally giving in, I installed Whatsapp as well on my cell phone. But here are some arguments that still make me favor Nimbuzz. Would like your inputs as well - 1- Nimbuzz allows you to chat with your FB, Yahoo, Gtalk, windows, skype etc etc contacts and also your Nimbuzz contacts (People who have Nimbuzz installed on their phones) Whatsapp lets you do that with your phone contacts only. 2- Nimbuzz allows you to resize files before sending, so technically you can send an image file as is, without resizing, whereas Whatsapp does an auto resize for you. 3- Nimbuzz allows for free calling via 3G or Wi-Fi, to another Nimbuzz contact. 4- The ability to segregate your groups ( yahoo, gtalk, windows etc etc ), and chose to be online/offline on each one. 5- No constant connection search, or running in the background, when you shut down Nimbuzz, it shuts down. 6- According to a recent comparision Nimbuzz available on more platforms, than Whatsapp. Heres a link - Compare feature: Google Talk, WhatsApp Messenger, Nimbuzz, PingChat! - Softonic 7- Most important for people like us - Nimbuzz is free, whereas Whatsapp is free for the first year only, and then 1$ after that. Nimbuzz counters this by showing ads, but then when has that deterred us 8- Nimbuzz allows one to buy Credits like Skype, and make cheap calls to phones/landlines anywhere in the world. I remember using it thru the Wi-Fi in my hotel for calling India, and it was pretty reasonable. So whats your take?
