Alright, we have seen a lot of things/developments in the Home entertainment scenario.

From 7.1 channel to 13.1 even if I remember correctly, to 3D viewing experience to HD formats that make the action feel as if you are viewing it for real.

From various speaker placements, to positioning, to damping, to delay to what not.

Will there be a simplification? For the average normal user to get on board?

Will there be a standardization ( HDMI being an example ) for all video/audio formats?

Will it be cheaper? ( for a normal home setup )

What do you think is the future of the LCD/LED/Plasma???

    My thoughts -

    - Sound setups will have to be simplified, and easier to setup/install.

    - TV viewing/LCD/LED etc will merge further with your HTPC/wifi/home network to ensure a seamless and smooth viewing experience.

    - 3D will remain a novelty, though those willing will invest and take it home, others will enjoy in the cinema.

    - Companies will eventually counter Piracy by streaming movies direct to your home screen for a extremely small fees ( Any money made is better than making no money at all )

    - Speaker count will go down, and will eventually go back to basics, since its whats going to drive the volume/rather than the quality.

    - Mobile phones/tablets will soon feature in as an accessory for playback ( Content can be restricted, so can be viewing )

Any and all takes are welcome, as long as we do not get into an argument!!!

Yeps.. I will agree with Simplified setups..

Also concealed Entertainment setups will become mainstream.. TVs will almost become part of the wall they are mounted on.
'Smart' capable setups will feature things like gesture control .. and cameras mounted on TVs will recognize who has come infront of the TV and will accordingly launch stream their favourite content..

I give this all another 5 years.

I am hoping that companies in India realize that people are growing up to the idea of a networked home setup, and someone starts offering these customizations soon.

Like one would hire an interior designer, one would also hire a Home enhancement specialist, who can help integrate everything ( electrical and Electronic ) in their house. tagging harryneopotter

not just home entertainment. Imagine a main server, wi-fi everywhere, you can operate your room lighting, A/C, fridge, everything thru a tablet, browse the web, get live news, download the latest movies ( legally ) from a web server, people can stream it in their rooms, or in the living area, you can configure the rooms to be motion activated ( lighting ) and what not! The possibilities are endless, and in the this is something that next in the list of affluent Indians who have everything else.

i don't think there is going to be standardization anytime soon!
looks st HDMI for example, there is a new version every 6 months or so. From what I read online soon Ultra HD TVs will come out & then everyone will be running to get that!!!

^^ and we are getting there... this is the only unification in home entertainment and comfort that has not been properly exploited. Companies do offer remote controlled lights and curtains etc. However the concept is to have everything unified and controlled from one proprietary tablet/iPad, that lets you pick your movies, order food, watch movies, the fridge updates you with the contents in it, and what all needs to be brought, you can set the temperature in your room and for the house as a general, etc etc and what not!
