From Dance Masti, to Rahul and I, the late 90s saw a number of great remixes in India.

Bally Sagoo started it with Chura Liya hai Tumne jo dil ko and then everyone gradually got onto the bandwagon. So much so that remixes started happening even before the original song was released or the album would have a remixed version included in it.

Sad, but there are some memorable remixes, like Hum bewafa, Bahon mein chale aao, Koi lehri babu, Kaliyon ka chaman, etc that actually rate better than their original songs.

Current remixes are just a bunch of sounds and some noise thrown in together.

RIP.. we'll always have that music video with that girl in the shirt...

Good riddance, I never liked them.
They were all fades, never had any concrete artistic value.

Indian Pop industry died long ago .. now those Artists just live off live shows & 90s nostalgia factor, smart ones played absorbed into Playback singing.

The Remix Era was supposed to be a second coming of Pop Music but mp3 era fizzled out any revenue for Music Labels.

We're living the Item Number era now .. with the sole aim of distracting movie goers from lack of an actual movie.

Well because digital sound is cheaper and easier to manipulate compared to an orchestra

Nope, If you listen to music from the 40-70s and also early Nadeem-Shravan music, they were all proper orchestras. Our generation examples being music of movies such as Aashiqui, DDLJ, Nearly all Karan Johar, Sooraj barjatiya, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Subash Ghai movies.

These guys wanted proper orchestra music (merged with digital effects as well). However now it's all slapstick and very few go the lengths.

I have always felt that what old Bollywood movies had in the form of music were absolutely brilliant lyrics and singers with soulful voice.. Nobody can be as melodious as Lata Mangeshkar, nobody can be as sensuous as Asha Bhonsle, nobody adds that playful spark to the song as Kishore Kumar did, nobody adds the depth that Mohammad Rafi could..

Mixing and remixing are also art.. Unfortunately, just faded away after an unnecessary overdose.

Good remixes have been as good as the original ones, if not better.. For example -

    The original :

Dunno about the Film Directors, but we've been lucky to be blessed with classical music that rivals any in the world. So there's no actual level for the truly gifted.

There are some who find and create music, and there are others who learn and then develop music of their own. Two vastly separate breeds.

People are just lazy, good music requires time and effort to understand and appreciate. Everyone wants to eat halwa.

Yes, because orchestra never had it's roots in India. It came in much much later. Similarly countries which boast of great orchestra music, don't have the classical music roots that we have as Indians.
