    Hello Raiders,

I need a new saving bank account for myself. These are the things I require :

    Minimum Possible Balance
    Internet and Phone Banking
    Good limit Debit Card

I would prefer one of these three banks : Axis, ICICI or HDFC.

    Any suggestions ?

SBI baby. The banking sucks, but the netbanking is good. Phone banking I have no idea on.

Phone banking would be good on ICICI and AXIS.

I have been using axis, their netbanking is good enough that never felt the need for phone banking, got a international debit card from them.

Your debit card limit is your account balance, initially they will give you a limit of 10-25,000 rs withdrawal per day, but then bump it up accordingly. You can request and get it bumped up as well.

Edit - SBI for the lowest minimum balance. Axis has a 5k limit.

SBI hands down! Zero minimum balance, good online banking (you can link a PPF account online!) No clue about phone banking.

Citibank is the granddaddy of online banking. Been using since 2002 no issues whatsoever, adding third party bank payee is instant (and has been like this since a decade!) Other banks are following now ...

Only issue with SBI is that adding payee takes 24 hours. I've found mobile banking to be pretty good as well. I would suggest Axis for your needs because you tend to shop online more frequently.

Citibank needs minimum 2 Lakhs to open an account ... i am better account less in that case.

MOZ : yeah, i already have an axis bank account, but thats a joint account with mom and me. So need a separate account for myself. Axis has a minimum balance of 10k (so has ICICI and HDFC), while SBI account can be open for as low as 1k. So I am more inclined towards SBI as of now :D

I mentioned citibank because of the payee thing. Go with SBI, now all SBI saving accounts are zero balance ;)

you need a referrer for SBI. look into that and confirm the requirements first.

hmmm... afair when I opened my SBI account, they had to be in the same branch. Try approaching the branch and find out. This info is about 5 years old.

Listen, i opened a SBI account without referrer, i was handed all papers with online banking passwords/debit cad/account number in 20 mins! You are worrying too much! Step inside a branch and inquire.
