If Hitler would not have ordered the invasion of Russia?

His forces were stretched when he ordered the invasion of Russia, and simultaneously got bogged down and were pinced off by the Red Army. However had he fortified his lines with Russia (who may or may not have advanced and attacked), he would've had a chance to defend against the Allies from the west and south and also go for the resources he badly needed to keep the war machinery going on. (Ural in the east IIRC).

That was not the only mistake though.
But it was definitely the biggest.

The other mistake was to invest in too diverse a military. He wanted all types of aircraft and machinery and he wanted it yesterday. Thanks to WW2 we got the process of producing petrol and diesel from coal(thanks to the Germans)
