I have had the opportunity to drive from Shillong to the Northern parts of our country. Have generally made Delhi my hub when in those parts. Shillong to Delhi is approx. 2400 kms. I do this in 30 hours of driving with 2 night halts. The first at Siliguri. Shillong to Siliguri is 596 Kms. which is covered in about 14 hours. The 2nd halt is at Varanasi or Lucknow, depending on which route I take. That is about 950 kms. which takes about 16 hours. The last stretch is to Delhi which is about 900 kms which is covered in about 14 hours.

The longest time I spent on the road was on my last trip. Started from Gorakhpur at 4PM in the evening and reached Delhi after spending about 24 hours on the road. This was due to a vehicle breakdown which restricted my speeds to 80kmph. This was with two vehicles with a single driver each which included me at the wheels of one of the vehicles.

At the end of the last trip between 30th March, 2013 to 2nd May, 2013, the tripmeter read 9224 kms. I plan to better this on my next road trip.

I had a booking for Lucknow but the Almighty had other plans. My vehicle suffered its 3rd breakdown on the trip at UP-Bihar border. It had to be towed to Gorakhpur so we skipped our stay at Lucknow. Did cross it though at 2AM in the morning.

Must have done maybe 160 kms on my bike trip non-stop .. maybe more than that. Well really I don't like to exhaust myself like that. I believe in power naps and breaks :p

I am learning driving and will be going on the freeway with my tutor now, so I can be ready for the great South African road trip of Jo'burg -> Durban -> Cape Town -> Jo'burg.
